    Leighton Learns Patience: Book Cover

    Leighton Learns Patience

Written and illustrated by Jessica Hansen

    Ages 4+ | 45 Pages

    Publisher: Jessica Hansen | ISBN-13: 9788987850428

What to Expect: Friendship, problem-solving, positive thinking

In this sweet new picture book, readers will meet a little girl they can almost certainly relate to and watch her grow into a new skill. The story not only teaches the growth mindset idea that new traits like patience can be learned but also models two great techniques that readers can use to get better at waiting.

Leighton is a sweet, smart, lovely little girl with one little problem—she hasn’t learned to wait yet! Leighton’s impatience causes her all kinds of trouble. When she won’t wait for dinner to be cooked, she only gets a plate of dry pasta. When she won’t wait for her bath to be ready, she gets frozen by the cold water. And when she’s too impatient to wait to have more money in her piggy bank, she breaks her new present for nothing. Then, Leighton’s daddy teaches her some clever tricks for getting better at patience, and Leighton learns that good things come to those who wait!

Bright, cheerful illustrations and simple rhyming text make the story accessible to beginner readers, with a few carefully placed real-life photographs adding interest and realism. The pictures also emphasize emotions, helping readers visualize the impacts that actions can have on those around them – and themselves.

Leighton Learns Patience is a fun and valuable story for teaching young children about patience.

    About the Author-Illustrator

Jessica Hansen is a first-time author and illustrator based in Dallas, Texas. When she’s not working as a nurse or creating art, Jessica enjoys sharing her adventures on social media, where she has built a following documenting her daily life since 2013. Growing up, Jessica was captivated by the playful and whimsical poems of Shel Silverstein, whose writing sparked her imagination and instilled a love of rhyming poetry that has stayed with her to this day.

Jessica’s first children’s book, Leighton Learns Patience, was inspired by her niece Leighton, whom she wanted to inspire with a fun and engaging story that promotes an important life skill. As both the author and illustrator of the book, Jessica worked hard creating colorful and imaginative illustrations that bring the story to life. Her goal is to create books that help parents to encourage children to explore their imaginations, teach them important life skills and foster a love of reading.
