Often, we tend to let the “noise” of the outside world take over us.  This can easily create feelings of anxiousness, frustration, and more.  Sometimes, we need to take a moment and remember that love is all we need.  It can be as simple as being a listening ear or a comforting hug in a time of need.  Let’s teach our children that our world is capable of love if we can only stop and look for it because it is all around us—this idea is exemplified in some recent stand-out books.

Here are three books reminding us that love is all around us:

Love Made Me More: Book Cover

    Love Made Me More

    Written by Colleen Rowan Kosinski

    Illustrated by Sonia Sanchez

    Ages: 4-9 | 32 Pages

    Publisher: Two Lions Publishing (2022) | ISBN-13: 978-1542006200

Kosinski shows readers a different type of love in the story about a boy and is an origami crane that he created with his grandmother.  It begins with a simply folded piece of paper but becomes so much more meaningful to this boy as it follows him throughout his life sitting on his nightstand table as it watches the boy become a man and later become a father.  This book is a reminder to us all that love can be found in simple things all around us yet can carry so much meaning.

    Together with You

    Written by Patricia Toht

    Illustrated by Jarvis

    Ages: 3-8 | 32 Pages

    Publisher: Candlewick Press (2023) | ISBN-13: 978-1536223514

The story takes readers on the unique adventures of a little boy and his grandmother throughout the different seasons.  The hand-lettered typeface adds to the special story as the duo not only dress the part for each season but embark on a fun activity.  Whether it was flying a kite in Autumn or sipping on hot cocoa with marshmallows to snuggle up with a good book, the two are inseparable.  They are creating memories as the year goes on because “no matter the weather, whatever we do, every day’s better together with you.”

Goodnight Love: A Bedtime Meditation Story: Book Cover

Goodnight Love: A Bedtime Meditation Story

    Written by Sumi Loundon Kim

    Illustrated by Laura Watkins

    Ages: 2-5 | 32 Pages

    Publisher: Bala Kids (2023) | ISBN-13: 978-1611809442

A special nighttime story that focuses on calming our brains and focusing more on meditation.  The beautiful illustrations match perfectly with the mindful text.  This “Metta” meditation teaches that our hearts have endless capacity for love and kindness.  “May my friends be healthy . . . May all the oceans be safe and protected.”  It really shows the world in an entirely different light for children as they prepare to wind down for slumber as they, too, are reminded they are safe and loved.  What better way to fall asleep than to hear those words?
