What to expect: Bears, Conquering Fears

Salina Yoon knocks this one out of the park with Stormy Night! This book features her most recent character, Bear, as he experiences the terror of a thunderstorm. Bear is frightened; but by comforting his Mama, Papa, and his favorite stuffed bunny, Floppy, he learns to overcome his fear of thunderstorms. This is a heart-wrenching story that allows the reader to identify with Bear while teaching a great lesson on how to overcome one’s fears. It also allows for a great conversation starter with kids in the upper-age range to talk about how Bear dealt with the situation and how they can apply these lessons in their life.

The illustrations in this book are first-class. They are bright, eye-catching, and full of expression. The illustrations are simple enough for little ones, but detailed enough to allow the reader to emotionally absorb the book without even reading any of the words. Adults will enjoy the colorful and whimsical illustrations as much as their kids.
