To be sure, there is nothing funny about werewolves, vampires, and black magic, but an imaginative child’s fanciful speculations about such troubling aspects of the enchanted realm can be delightfully humorous, as demonstrated in this brief excerpt from Of Fairies and Witches and Kisses and Wishes:
If I were to meet a vampire some night,
I’d ask if he wanted to be my friend.
Well, you never can tell; a vampire might
If he didn’t already have a friend.
But he’d have to promise me not to bite.
