My son, who will enter kindergarten in just a few days, was given a Kindle for Christmas a few years ago. We loaded it up with learning games, which he played during his sister’s nap. His sister is now getting ready for preschool and has started asking for her own Kindle as she has seen how much her brother has loved to play and learn. This would be a great surprise for her!

I want to win for my 6 grandchildren ages 1-10. I want them to grow up with the love of reading. I have many books I loved reading when I was younger, since I read above my age and grade level many were what we now call YA. Lois Duncan was my favorite author and Summer of Fear was a favorite book. Harry Potter is one of my other obsessions too. I read all the kids Goodnight Moon and we found one called Goodnight Goon which fits our family’s love of scary movies and books.

Its been a long time so since I read a childrens book, but now I babysit my new grandbaby and am ready to discover them all again, old and new. I want him to learn about books and imagination and the magic that comes to life from reading from the very start. So I will be reading to him and looking at pictures and being animated for sure. This would be fabulous so we could take many of our stories with us everywhere.

I would love to win this to share with a child in the elementary school where I volunteer in the library. Students are competing in a 40 book challenge for the second year and this would be a fantastic prize for the top reader. They are also participating in a school-wide program called The Great Stallion Read this year parallelling the Great American Read. Their librarian is a gem. We both read along with the kids and share what we’re reading. My favorite all-time series is Harry Potter and my favorite picture book is Millions of Cats.

I want to win this prize because I am a reading teacher, and a lover of books, history and knowledge. But mostly, I want to win because my 3-year old niece is interested in reading, and I want to share it with her. I can’t give just one book, but a short list might be The Giving Tree, Harry Potter series, and anything with wizards and magic. 🙂
