    About the Author

LIVINGSTONE CROUSE has spent the last 20 years either selling, editing, or writing books for children. He’s even done all three at once! So recently he decided he’d focus entirely on writing the kinds of books he likes to read, books in verse that are filled with heart, wordplay, and lots of laughs—books like this one. Crouse lives in a 200-year-old farmhouse in New York’s Hudson Valley with his husband and a dog named Kat. (And you can be fairly certain that Livingstone Crouse is not his real name. But don’t tell anyone!)

    About the Illustrator

MACKY PAMINTUAN is the illustrator of several children’s books, including the Flat Stanley series. As a young child, drawing was his favorite pastime…an activity that brought him delight and satisfaction. Early on, his parents discovered that giving him paper and a pencil was a sure way to keep him busy, quiet, and out of trouble. He still remembers the day when he successfully drew Mickey Mouse and Superman, a huge breakthrough and a sweet triumph. He now lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, with his family. He has a smarty-pants young daughter and a goofy golden retriever who may or may not have been the inspiration for this book’s artwork.

We talk about all new things. Like the 1st day of school, going to the dentist, etc. in the weeks leading up to it. It makes what to expect familiar and it really does help!

The listen without talking game will help them get prepared. They get rewarded for not talking while others talk (the teacher most importantly) with a star on a poster board. They get rewarded for holding up their hand if they need to ask a question or answer one, with a star on a poster board. If they get enough stars on the poster board at home that day after the game then they get to choose the next activity, or maybe a healthy snack.

I would ask them what they think is important to have ready for the first day of school and help them pack a backpack with those items. 🙂 I’d also ask them what they think would be good clothes to wear to school and help them pick out an outfit for the first day 🙂

My tip for preparing for the first day of school is to have everything organized and laid out the night before. This includes clothes, school supplies, backpack, and lunchbox. I am excited about this book because it would be perfect for a family member starting kindergarten.

My tip for kindergarten is to have everything organized for your kindergartener and have plenty of tissues on hand! When my little guy started school my little girl was 10 months old but my house felt empty because I didn’t have him telling me his funny jokes! Now my little girl is about to start kindergarten and I will be by my lonesome!

Reading to and with children is the best way to prepare for school and life! My best tip is to always read the author’s name and the illustrator’s name when you read to your children. My girls cold recognize illustrators at a very young age.
