If You Were Me and Lived In series, written by award-winning author Carole P. Roman

The holidays are a great time to celebrate your family and your neighbors—and we don’t just mean your next-door neighbors. This season of celebrations is a wonderful time to encourage diversity, knowledge, interest, and mutual respect. Whether you observe Christmas, Hanukkah, Bodhi Day, Kwanzaa, the Winter Solstice, or any other celebration, we’re thrilled to share these books that allow young readers an opportunity to appreciate differences and see commonalities . . .

    Age Range: 4-10

    About the Books

If You Were Me and Lived In Italy Interior 2

It’s never too early to start teaching children about the world around them. Embraced by educators, parents, and children, the series gently and respectfully introduces the subjects of cultures and customs. Parents, grandparents, and teachers alike will love opening their children’s eyes to the world around them in a fun and easy way—and they’ll be happily surprised when they end up learning a few things themselves. It is the simplistic and positive way that award-winning author Carole P. Roman, a former social studies teacher, delivers the text, that makes this series appealing. The books are short and to the point and just what you want when you’re introducing geography and culture to the youngest reading set.

I would share these books with children of friends who may not be exposed to different cultures. The most important aspect of celebrating the holidays is being together. Family members who live or study thousands of miles apart always come together. Whenever possible, if my daughter is singing we’ll attend her performance. In 2015, she sang the Messiah with the NY Philharmonic at Lincoln Center. My children have accomplished many impressive feats, but I’m most pleased by their extraordinary kindness and compassion.

These books would be perfect for my Grandkids, when I go over we spin the globe and talk about other countries. I want them to learn about the countries without TV or Radio’s influence. I want them growing up loving everyone. When their friends come over they love our little game. These books would really tell about these places. We celebrate our holiday with large family gatherings, food, and laughter. When we first start decorating we take my ceramic Nativity set and set them off on the road to follow the star. As the month goes on they take turns or both have something to move. On Christmas Eve we read the story from the Bible with all the family around.
