How Does My Brain WorkHow Does My Brain Work?

    Written by Stacey A. Bedwell

‘How does my brain work?’ follows an adventurous girl as she learns all about various aspects of brain anatomy, physiology and function. My first children’s publication gives the reader an exciting introduction to brain science. The story teaches how different brain regions contribute to a wide range of functions and behaviours through an easy to follow and exciting narrative. The consistent question and answer format makes every page a new and interesting subject to be explored.

‘How does my brain work?’ features a knowledgeable brain character, named Brian. Brian is able to answer every question that is thrown at him, helped out with fascinating brain facts from neurons on each page. The interaction with the brain character makes the book exciting to read and the information presented easy to digest.

As a neuroscientist, I intended to create an accessible route into understanding the brain for scientific minded children. Every page covers a different subject area. The adventure begins with learning what the brain looks like and the neurons it is made up of, we then move through various functions including vision, hearing, motor control and sensation and finish with a summary of neuroscience and neuropsychology research. It is hoped that this insight into neuroscience will inspire further reading and learning about the brain, perhaps leading to a career in brain research.

Aimed at a fairly wide audience, ‘How does my brain work?’ is suitable for both young and older children. Having a neuroscience focus does mean there are some complex words to read and learn, allowing for development of vocabulary as well as learning about neuroscience.

‘How does my brain work?’ By Stacey A. Bedwell is available in both paperback and kindle editions on Amazon.
