Sashi and the Puppy Mill Girl is a picture book about a Shetland Sheepdog’s – also known as a Sheltie – journey from a puppy mill to foster care to adoption. This heartwarming tale has received a Mom’s Choice Award honoring its excellence.
Anna and her mommy fostered Sashi and her brother, Buddy, from the Shetland Sheepdog Rescue. One day, Mommy comes home with a newly fostered and frightened Sheltie named Cinnamon. Cinnamon has been rescued from a puppy mill where her puppies were taken away from her to be sold at pet stores. As Cinnamon adjusts to her new surroundings, Mommy and Anna nurture and clean her, and she learns that she is safe. Sashi, Buddy, and Cinnamon begin to bond and play. Before long, Cinnamon is carefully and lovingly integrated into her new forever home.
Linda Greiner’s reassuring text teaches readers about how terrible puppy mills can be, but, most importantly, young children will learn the importance of kindness and how to build a relationship based on trust with pets. Greiner’s tone is clear and concise and has a softness to it that makes this Sheltie tale easy to read. The characters, particularly Anna and her mother, show readers the importance of compassion and caring. Morgan Spicer, a talented pet portrait artist, has provided charming animated illustrations that infuse the pages with extra soul.
All in all, Sashi and the Puppy Mill Girl is a tender tale to be enjoyed by dog-loving families—especially those that are considering adding a new pet to their family. Recommended.

About the Author
Linda Greiner fell in love with Shelties when doing research on what type of dog to get for her sixteenth birthday. Many years later, instead of purchasing another puppy, she decided to contact the Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey and adopted Sashi in 2001. Hoping to find a suitable brother or sister for “the princess”, Linda started fostering for SSPSNJ in 2003. Each dog has a tale to tell. A portion of sales proceeds from Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie, Sashi Adopts a Brother, and Sashi and the Puppy Mill Girl are being donated to Sheltie Rescue.

About the Illustrator
Morgan Spicer is an illustrator, character/concept designer and the Founder of Bark Point Studio. She has illustrated 13 Children’s Books since she graduated from Syracuse University’s Illustration Program in 2012. Morgan Spicer has created over 2,500 custom illustrations (previously called caricatures) with a percentage of a lot of her commissions going to local and international Animal Rescue Groups that she has partnered with. Morgan Spicer’s first book to be published, Sashi The Scared Little Sheltie is a successful 3-part series, now available with a percentage of sales to benefit Sheltie Rescue. She lives with her Curly Tail Crew—three rescue pups that inspire he everyday.
