    Sky and ISky and I

    Written by Shronda Sledge

    Age Range: 4-8

    Paperback: 22 pages

    Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.(2017)

    ISBN: 978-1640282513

What to Expect: Love, Self-worth, and Christianity

In this picture book, a young boy who feels unloved gets a lesson in self-worth from the sky.

While looking up at the sky, a boy ponders the question: What could I be? When Sky responds that the boy can be anything, he replies that he isn’t good enough. Sky gently, yet persuasively, tells the boy that he is filled with the greatness “that our Creator” put inside of him when he was born. She tells him that he will do many great things in his life. She encourages him to find his own self-worth by yelling affirmations into the air, such as: I am wonderful, I am special, I am strong, I am loved, and I can do anything I put my mind to.

Colorful illustrations set the scene as the boy, who looks tween-aged, walks along a farmland path. His facial expressions depict his range of emotions (from sad to discouraged to blissful) well.  Author Shondra Sledge is the CEO of a nonprofit that assists homeless families. Her prose, while simple, holds a heartwarming and poetic sensibility.

“That’s perfect. Now don’t let anyone take that away.” …

“Sky, what’s all that noise? And where did that wind come from? Sky? Sky, did you just kiss me?”

Sky and I is for readers that could benefit from an uplifting and affirming spiritual message of self-belief and the love of God.
