If you’re looking for a fun, engaging, and educational program that is smartphone, tablet, and computer friendly, ABCmouse.com® Early Learning Academy is a great digital learning resource for children ages 2–8.

Beginning with the creation of an avatar (you can pick everything from skin color to an outfit) and selecting a grade level (toddler time through 2ndgrade), children can work and play their way through over 10,000 Learning Activities and 850 lessons—all standards-based—to advance in areas such as reading, math, science, social studies, art, and music. They can enter the classroom and choose a subject of choice to work on, or they can take the Learning Path that guides them through engaging grade level lessons. With each completed lesson, kids collect incentives along the way—carnival-like tickets that can be used to acquire fun things like accessories for tending to their virtual pet hamster or adding a new train or castle bed to their virtual room. The incentives also work like an exciting intro into saving money—different virtual toys and accessories require smaller and larger amounts of tickets … so if that train bed is the most desired item, then you need to complete enough lessons to obtain the right amount of tickets.

Parents are also a part of the learning—there is a progress checker and an assessment center to measure and guide your child’s knowledge and aptitudes. Besides the educational value and fun factor of ABCmouse, this is a safe place for your kiddos to spend time—there are no advertisements, and ABCmouse abides by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, a law created to protect the privacy of children under 13. No advertisements means that there is a monthly subscription fee, however, the first 30 days are completely free—and you can add up to three children for the price of one! If you try it out for the month and don’t love it (we think you will), you can cancel the subscription within the first month to avoid getting billed.

ABCmouse is a great use of screen time and our top go-to educational app. In our experience, when our own kids ask, “Can I do some ABCmouse?” (and they do daily) they are effectively asking, “Can I do some learning?” How can you say no to that?
