Pirates and Spooks, Beware is her collection of fifteen lively and spine-tingling poems. Beginning with Stinky Pete and The Lady Pirate and ending with Hungry in the Jungle, Weiner sends readers sailing through the pages with her witty and wicked tummy-churning words. Each poem is a tale in its own right, featuring dreaded pirates (some stinky and some who battle in ball gowns), alligators, mummies, ocean monsters, mermaids, a ghostly hitchhiker, and a vegetarian cannibal. Bobbie Kogok’s enigmatic illustrations draw from the text to add vibrancy and visual context.

About the Author
Susan Weiner loves children’s literature because rules do not apply and anything can and often does happen. This is her first book of children’s poetry but definitely not her last. Susan did graduate study at UCLA and hopes her field of Seventeenth-Century English History informs and shapes her fiction, especially her knowledge and understanding of any dreaded pirates!
