Beginning with a recap, the three Greystone kids, Chess, Emma, Finn, are thrilled to have their mom back from the alternate world, as is their friend Natalie. Their lives had taken some weird turns over the past months, and maybe it’s their mom that needs more protection than they do. They all very quickly realize that danger is lurking around every corner as the mind-controlling bad guys are beginning to infiltrate the real world.
When the kids begin to find coins covered in mysterious symbols, they will once again have to work together to decipher codes to discover the messages hidden within them. The Greystones must pair up with their doubles, the Gustanos, to restore truth, justice, and honor to both the alternate and real-world—all while watching for enemies and learning to put trust in new friends.
As with all good series with unanswered questions, Haddix certainly delivers on the answers, but not before she unleashes even more questions and codes to crack that keep the reader engaged and committed to turning the pages. The strong themes of teamwork and problem-solving that drive the series are found all the way through. Young readers will be glad to have taken this journey with the Greystone kids.
The solid world-building and all the twists and turns that start in the first book and wrap up neat and tidily with this third and final book, The Messengers, will have strong appeal for kids who love to solve mysteries and crack codes. This series is also an excellent choice for kids who enjoy books about conquering evil. Best when read in order!

About the Author
Margaret Peterson Haddix grew up on a farm in Ohio. As a kid, she knew two girls who had the exact same first, middle, and last names and shared the same birthday—only one year apart—and she always thought that was bizarre.
As an adult, Haddix worked as a newspaper reporter and copy editor in Indiana before her first book, Running Out of Time, was published. She has since written more than forty books for kids and teens, including the Greystone Secrets series, the Shadow Children series, the Missing series, the Children of Exile series, and lots of stand-alones. Haddix and her husband, Doug, now live in Columbus, Ohio, where they raised their two kids.
