About the Author
Jessica Gold is a true creative and nature lover at heart. In addition to writing her new children’s book, Get Outside, Jessica is a full-time practicing dentist, but her passions include all forms of art, including ceramics, sketching, and embroidery.
The inspiration for Get Outside came shortly after Jessica took her 3-month-old daughter on an extended trip to introduce her to hiking, the ocean, and the mountains. Seeing nature through her daughter’s eyes provided a new perspective on the world’s beauty. Envisioning a future filled with screens and technology made Jessica want to remind other families what’s truly important, and her book is a way for parents and their children to practice this together.
Jessica grew up ski-racing, hiking, and biking around the world with her family, practicing yoga, waterskiing, canoe tripping, and attending camp every summer. In this way, her parents first instilled her love for the outdoors by making sure her childhood was filled with adventure and nature exploration.
Jessica lives with her husband, Matt, and her daughter Maeve, along with their dog, Jones, in Toronto, Canada. When she isn’t writing books or practicing dentistry, Jessica’s spending time outdoors—spending days hiking through mountains, creating fresh ski tracks in the morning, and spending nights spent under the stars and in a tent. But her very favorite thing to do is to show her daughter the beauty of the world around her.
