What to Expect: Technology, AI, safety, science, imagination, and interactive.
With AI seemingly set to invade every aspect of modern life, teaching kids how to understand it and use it responsibly has become a top concern for many parents and educators. In this upbeat and humorous guide, readers won’t just learn what AI is—they’ll also learn its limitations and some rules for making sure they remain in charge while using it.
Everyone is talking about AI, and some people are even worried that AI might someday replace humans. But do you really know what AI is? Or how it works? In this book, you’ll learn both of those things, and something even cooler—you’ll learn that no matter how intelligent AI is, it can NEVER replace real humans like you! That’s because computers lack three important qualities all humans have in bucket-loads: empathy, imagination, and creativity. And you don’t just have to take that on faith—this book will walk you through some simple experiments you can try to prove that, however cool AI might be, humans are WAY cooler!
The cartoon-style illustrations use superhero imagery to emphasize the idea that computers should not be in charge, while thought-experiments, real experiments, and direct questions encourage kids to believe they can control computers and put their mastery to the test. An author’s note to parents reminds parents that they, too, can exercise control over technology by helping their children practice the rules and strategies set out in the book.
Engaging, thought-provoking, and eminently practical, Humans Are Awesome! is a wonderful book for supporting technology education both at home and in the classroom.
