Twinkle Twinkle Little Bug: Book Cover

    Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Bug

    Written by Michelle Chance

    Illustrated by Nadia Ronquillo

    Ages: 4+ | 30 Pages

Publisher: Pixie Dust Publishing (2024) | ISBN: 9798990023536

What to Expect: Nature, science, bioluminescence, adventure, and discovery.

In this simple, entertaining picture book, magic and adventure mingle with STEM to ignite a spark of scientific curiosity in young readers, fostering an interest in the amazing science of the natural world.

Pippa the Pixie and Viktor the Viking aren’t just regular (fairy/warrior) kids—they’re scientists who use the power of observation to make amazing discoveries about the natural world around them. One night, after playing in the forest too late, they notice something curious – insects that glow in the dark! Pippa, who happens to be a science fairy, explains that the insects are displaying something called bioluminescence—their own, naturally produced light. With the help of the bioluminescent fireflies, Pippa and Viktor are able to find their way home in the dark, meeting other bioluminescent creatures on their way and learning all about why and how different creatures produce their own light. All in all, it’s a magical walk home!

Pippa and Vikor are both curious and observant, modeling good scientific mindsets for readers. Their nighttime adventure delivers a wealth of factual information about the biology of bioluminescence. The digital illustrations help make this natural phenomenon feel magical, while a simple, safe experiment at the end of the story will help young readers create their own glow-in-the-dark light show. The book’s simple vocabulary and sentence structure ensure that all young readers can easily understand and enjoy the story.

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Bug is a captivating story that introduces very young readers to the magic of science.
