Alycat and the Sunday Scaries: book cover

    Alycat and the Sunday Scaries

    Alycat and the Sunday Scaries

    Written by Alysson Foti Bourque

    Illustrated by Chiara Civati

    Ages: 4+ | 32 Pages

    Publisher: Pelican Publishing (2023) | ISBN-13: 978-1455627790

What to Expect: Cats, Friendships, Anxiety, and Days of the Week.

Alycat and The Sunday Scaries, the latest addition to Alysson Foti Bourque’s Alycat picture book series, delivers a heartwarming tale of companionship and social support, teaching children about the challenges and struggles of anxiety and fear and how to overcome them.

Alycat has a relatable case of the Sunday scaries—a fear of Monday. But when she and her friends spend their final day of the weekend filled with exciting activities like biking, climbing trees, and even selling lemonade, they all learn to help each other through their fears, and, in turn, Alycat faces her anxieties surrounding Monday without hesitation. It turns out that every day of the week has something unique to offer—we can’t have one day without the others.

Bourque’s entertaining and captivating story brilliantly showcases the importance of having supportive friends who encourage and uplift each other through life’s ups and downs. Their teamwork, kindness, and positive attitudes are not only admirable but also inspiring. Chiara Civati’s lively and playful illustrations keep children engaged throughout the book, while Bourque’s well-crafted language is perfect for early readers.

An ideal read for young kids between 4 and 8 years old, Alycat and the Sunday Scaries would make a great addition to any family library and could be used to start discussions on anxiety and fears. It’s cat-tastic!
