    Written by Deana Plaskon

    Illustrated by Lea Marie Ravotti

    Ages: 5-10 | 36 Pages

Publisher: Bella and Bird Books (2025) | ISBN:  79-8-9872684-1-4

What to Expect: Anger Management, Emotions, Control, and Family.

In this wise and funny picture book, readers will learn valuable tools for recognizing and managing strong emotions by watching Henry work through his problem.

When Henry’s mom tells him he can’t have a slice of his favorite pie, he gets really, REALLY mad! Luckily, Henry has two friends who can help him figure out what to do: Bella the horse and Bird the bird. Bella helps Henry learn some essential skills, including using box breathing to calm himself, recognizing the clues his body gives him about his emotions, using counting to keep his anger under control, and using words to express his feelings to others.

With the help of his two wise friends, Henry realizes that it’s okay to feel mad—so long as you express that anger in the right way. With his new tools for managing anger, Henry can talk to his Mom about how he feels, and find out why he couldn’t have a slice of pie—yet!

Readers are sure to relate to Henry’s frustration and strong emotions, and they can learn how to control their own strong emotions as they watch him work through his with patience and willingness to change his ways. Bella and Bird are kind and understanding teachers who validate Henry’s feelings and offer him solutions through examples and language he can understand. Ravotti’s vibrant hand-drawn artwork fills nearly every page with joyful flowers, pastoral scenery, and cozy images of home, reminding readers that even when they feel most angry, the world is still filled with beauty and joy.

Empowering and practical, Bella and Bird Explore Anger is a lovely story for teaching children emotional intelligence.
