    The Children’s Book Review
    Published: March 28, 2012

Picture Book“Dad, how tall does sagebrush grow?”

    “Mom, why do rabbits hop?”

    -from the book

Carl is always asking questions and reading to find the answers to his questions. His parents are concerned about what he will be when he grows up. On a rainy day, Carl visits the nearby museum. Discovering beautiful wildlife art helps him set a goal for his career path. The reward Carl receives will delight the reader.

This engaging and uplifting story for young readers carries the solid message that reading is fun and empowering. The thought-provoking content motivates children to want to obtain better reading skills.

Noted wildlife and landscape artist, John Potter, has created charming illustrations that bring Carl to life.

“Each time I present this book to my class it never fails to excite the class and promote valuable group discussions on the importance of reading and how it can be utilized to accomplish their goals and dreams”

                      Rose A. John, B.A.,M.Ed., teacher

“I love these books.. and they advocate for literacy. Carl is a voracious reader with piles of books in his home that he uses to figure things out. What a great role model!”

                      Jane Lavino,  Curator of Education,

Award-winning author, Lynn Estes Friess, created Carl to introduce children to the joy of reading and wildlife art. As a grandmother of 11, an avid art collector and on the boards of several art museums, Lynn has begun the first in a four part series about Carl.

Jackson Hole author Lynn Estes Friess has won a 2012 Mom’s Choice Award for her picture book “Carl Discovers Wildlife Art“(Mariposa Ranch Press, 2010).

Written by Friess and illustrated by noted landscape and wildlife artist John Potter, the book received the award in the category “Children’s Picture Books“ in the annual awards, which recognize authors, inventors, companies, parents and other people for their efforts in creating quality family-friendly media, products and services.

Her winning book, originally published in 2010, is the first in a four-part series. The second book, “Carl and the Mysterious Nibbler,“ was released in 2011.
