Clove, the Brave Chicken: Book Cover

    Clover, the Brave Chicken

    Written by Melanie Dieas

    Illustrated by Dacil Curbelos

    Ages: 4-6 | 24 Pages

    Publisher: Melanie Dieas (2025) | ISBN: 979-8218760373

What to Expect: Courage, self-confidence, helping others, and being unique.

Set amidst the familiar sights and sounds of an idyllic farmyard, this story teaches readers about the importance of being true to oneself and recognizing one’s own strengths.

Clover the Chicken isn’t sure what her strengths are. All the other animals on the farm seem to have their own unique talents, from the cow’s loud “moo” to the ducks’ ability to swim and the goat’s gift for climbing. But when Clover tries to be just like them, she discovers she doesn’t have the skills to swim like a duck or climb like a goat.

In fact, she’s not really sure there’s anything special about her at all. But when the baby chicks wander out of the open farmyard gate and get lost in a storm, Clover is the only one brave enough to go after them and bring them safely back home. Clover’s unique skill is her bravery and care for others—and she doesn’t need anything else!

Clover’s worries will be familiar to many readers, and her optimism and determination make her an endearing character to read about. The cheery cartoon artwork emphasizes these characteristics, with the cleverly drawn facial expressions of the other animals adding humor to her antics. Readers will enjoy laughing at her mishaps as she tries to mimic the different animals—but her triumph at the end of the story carries a reminder that finding your true mission in life is the most rewarding thing of all.

Perfect for shared reading, especially aloud, this uplifting story will help young readers reflect on their own unique gifts.
