    Favorite Visit to Papa’s Farm

    Written by Sally Johnson

    Ages 6-8 | 42 Pages

    Publisher: Lanier Press | ISBN-13: 978-1-63183-689-3

What to Expect: Seasons, Nature, Family.

What is the best part of visiting Papa’s farm? Maybe it’s seeing Kotey, the baby foal? Or perhaps it’s picking fresh radishes, strawberries, and sweet corn for Grandma to turn into a delicious lunch? What about seeing the baby bluebirds in their nesting box or riding a horse for the first time? Maybe it’s making a jack-o-lantern out of a big, hollow pumpkin? Or sledding on the packed snow down to the creek and building a huge snowman? Apart from knowing she really doesn’t much like fishing, Mackenzie is finding it really hard to decide—there’s just so much about visiting the farm that is special!

Favorite Visit to Papa’s Farm is a story with many themes: the joy of family; the slow march of change and the inevitable turn of the seasons; and the pleasure of making, learning, and doing things for oneself. The story has the old-fashioned simplicity of classics like Swallows and Amazons or The Boxcar Children, and shows siblings enjoying one another’s company while exploring the world around them, guided by parents who are caring but not smothering. As well as enjoying the gentle pace of the story, readers will enjoy the many suggestions for fun activities, from making Christmas tree ornaments and jack-o-lanterns to churning home-made ice cream and creating their own blessings tree. This book is a great choice for some wholesome, shared family reading.

    About the Author

Sally Johnson and her husband resided in Florida where they raised their family. Once they retired, they decided to move to Western North Carolina where “country living” was similar to their upbringing. The beautiful countryside and mountain views, the opportunity to grow a garden and enjoy outdoor activities were their preferred way of life. It also gave their children and four grandchildren a wonderful destination to vacation. The grandchildren are now grown but the stories of their visits are a regular topic of conversation at family gatherings. The stories in this book are for her grandchildren and for children far and wide to enjoy.
