Another Halloween-themed gem for ages 4-8 is the picture book Wicked Jack by Connie Nordhielm Wooldridge, illustrated by Will Hillenbrand. Wooldridge adapts an Appalachian folktale that just may explain the origin of jack-o-lanterns.
