    Halloween Books for Ages 0-7

Bianca Schulze, The Children’s Book Review
    Published: October 11, 2010

New and notable picture and board books that bring the right amount of thrill for a Halloween read.

    Creepy Carrots Book CoverCreepy Carrots!

by Aaron Reynolds, illustrated by Peter Brown

“The Twilight Zone comes to the carrot patch in this clever picture book parable about a rabbit who fears his favorite treats are out to get him.” Reynolds and Brown have the winning combination of wacky and eerie in this wonderfully absurd new picture book. Black and white with bursts of Halloween orange, the illustrations are creepy and alluring all at the same time—Brown is brilliant! With just the right amount of scare factor for young readers, this is an excellent choice for a spooky and fun read-aloud.

Picture Book by LeUyen PhamVampirina Ballerina

By Anne Marie Pace, illustrated by LeUyen Pham

LeUyen Pham’s watercolor and pen-and-ink illustrations are entertainingly adorable! With chubby little thighs, big wide eyes (and a hint of sparkle on the striking cover), she captures the sweetness and awkwardness of a new ballet student, Vampirina Ballerina. It can be hard to curtsy while wearing a cape; however, the ever-smiling vampire practices, practices, practices and becomes a real ballerina along with all of her fellow human classmates.
