Stella -My Family and Me: Book Cover

    Stella: My Family and Me

    Written by Jay Scoby

    Illustrated by Leanne Franson

    Ages: 0-10 | 32 Pages

    Publisher: Ampersand, Inc. | ISBN-13: 9781734070859

What to Expect: Friendship, pets, new puppy, family, determination, love

New pets—especially bouncy, energetic puppies—can be quite a handful, but it’s difficult not to fall in love when you meet a puppy as cute as Stella.

Stella is a very little puppy, and she is super excited to go home with her new family! Even though she gets into mischief almost immediately, she loves her family and her family love her—and there is so much to learn. From gardening and learning where her bed is to taking a bath and working out where to sleep, Stella has a lot of settling in to do. Are baskets for sitting in or putting toys in? Is that much water really a good idea? And surely the family didn’t mean to make her sleep alone for the whole night! Good thing she’s a resourceful puppy!

Told from the puppy’s point of view in simple, minimal text, this story is accessible to learning readers, who will love matching the text to Stella’s adorable antics in the colorful ink-and-paint illustrations. Movement and expression help bring Stella to life on the page, showing her emotions as she learns to be part of her new family. Throughout, the emphasis is on Stella’s wonder, excitement for life, and love for her new family, making this story a joy to read.
