Beautifully written and illustrated by Randolph Booth, ‘The Lumpheads’ is a darkly comedic children’s picture book. In a full 64 pages of stupid it tells the tale of the dim-witted Morgan family who (rather accidentally) embark upon an adventure of absolute disaster…and unwittingly unravel a sinister secret in a town where ‘grey-matter’ matters.
When the brainless are burgeoning, the halfwits become heroes! (sort of)
Inspired by Laurel and Hardy, It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, Steptoe and Son, Beavis and Butthead, Curb Your enthusiasm and Trailer Park Boys, ‘The Lumpheads’ has been crafted to raise a smile. Brimming with gummy old men, men with beards that look like women with beards, culinary disasters, accidental bee discharges and flea-bitten donkey troubles, ‘The Lumpheads’ is a slapstick comedy of errors leading to an unexpected finale.
The story of the Morgan family is presented in a tangled web of fast-paced, fluid, intricate super rhyme (in fact this book contains over 700 lines of rhyme!) which is complimented by detailed hand drawn illustrations. Author/illustrator Randolph Booth has also taken great care in designing the book, from creating a font for the text to hand stressing each page to create a grubby, worn aesthetic.
It is the first book from new publisher ‘Radioactive Books’, who aim to specialise in dark, funny and lovingly produced and designed stories for children.
About the author – Randolph Booth likes everything. He is permanently inquisitive. He especially likes science, the film ‘Street Trash’, skateboarding, Super Nintendo games, stop-motion animation and above all else, making things. A stop motion animation that Randolph created to support and advertise ‘The Lumpheads’ can be found on his website where the book is also available for purchase in both paperback and ebook formats
