    The Pirates of Bathtub Bay

    Written by Tom Clark

    Illustrated by Ishika Sharma

    Ages: 4+ | 38 Pages

    Publisher: Book Logix (2024) | ISBN-13: 9781665308939

What to Expect: Imagination, adventure, bathtime, and pirates.

In this cute and enjoyable picture book, readers can join an unnamed protagonist on his final bath time adventure before he transitions to showers, more common for older children.

The seas are rough and the weather wild, but the captain and crew of the Old Wooden Walrus are ready for one last bathtime adventure—they’re seeking the Golden Duck! The unnamed protagonist, a brave young soul, is at the forefront of this daring mission. The dangers are many and varied, from mermaids with terrible singing voices to tentacled sea monsters that smell really bad.  Luckily, the captain is well equipped, with his trusty map and brave first mate. Giant, whale-eating bubble and crushing waterfalls threaten the ship, but the skeleton crew remains steadfast—they know they must find the treasure tonight or never because the captain is getting too old for bathtime!

The story celebrates the power of imagination to find play and excitement in everyday objects and events, humorously juxtaposing the boy’s real family with the wild characters in his head. The vibrant digital artwork helps with this juxtaposition, inviting readers to laugh at a sharp-toothed mermaid with his sister’s face or the vision of a pirate ship being swallowed up by bath bubbles. The humor in the story is sure to keep the readers entertained. At the end of the story, a glossary helps readers recognize and remember unfamiliar terms, while the simple rhyming text is ideal for developing literacy skills.

The Pirates of Bathtub Bay is not just a fun and funny read, but a source of inspiration
for readers to embark on their own imaginative adventures.
