    papillion-the-very-fluffy-kittyThe Very Fluffy Kitty, Papillon

Written and Illustrated by A.N. Kang

    Age Range: 3 and up

    Hardcover: 352 pages

    Publisher: Disney-Hyperion

    ISBN: 978-1484717981

What to expect: Cats, whimsy, cuddly

Papillon is a very fluffy kitty. And like his French namesake, Papillon can fly like a butterfly!

Papillon (Pappy-YAWN) is lighter than air, and that is a problem. His owner, Ms. Tilly, wants him to stay put at home, and so she concocts all sorts of interesting ideas to keep him there. First, she feeds him lots of delicious treats: pizza, fish and doughnuts. But he still floats! Then, a bowl of spaghetti lands on his head and weighs him down. Eureka! Ms. Tilly then begins devising clothing and hats that will keep Papillon weighed down firmly to the ground. She starts with a crown and medal around his neck, then moves to a sombrero and poncho, a fluffy bunny costume, and finally a full-blown tree costume! Needless to say, Papillon is not pleased with his changing wardrobe. He just wants to fly.

One day, Papillon notices a new friend at the window – a pretty little bird. When the bird flies away, Papillon follows out the window on a grand cross-county adventure. While flying across the spooky forest, Papillon realizes that maybe there is a way to stay safely home, and make friends, too.

Papillon is an adorable book with beautiful illustrations that make you want to reach in to the page and pet the fluffiest kitty around. Papillon is sweet and mischievous (just like children) and full of adventure. However, it’s not too scary or intense for a read before bedtime. Kang is supremely talented, able to combine delightful pictures with pitch-perfect prose that is accessible and fun. Her debut picture book is a delight.

    Highly recommended.
