    What About Worms!?

Written and Illustrated by Ryan T. Higgins and Mo Willems

    Ages 5-7 | 64 Pages

Publisher: Hyperion Books for Children | ISBN-13: 978-1368045735

What to Expect: Anxiety, friendship, learning new things, courage, reading

With artwork and characters from the enormously successful Elephant and Piggy books to get the story going, this joint effort from Mo Willems and Ryan T. Higgins is a fantastic book about books, reading, and the power of knowledge to make the world a better place.

Tiger wants you to know about tigers. Tigers are big, brave, and not afraid of anything. Tigers love flowers, apples, and books! But maybe tigers are afraid of something after all … they’re scared of worms! Worms are wiggly and slimy and EVERYWHERE! They might be hiding in a lovely pot of flowers! They might be hiding in a lovely crunchy apple! They might even be in the new book tiger has picked up! Because Tiger is so afraid of worms, he can’t enjoy his flowers or apple, and he never even reads the book. It turns out the book isn’t about worms after all – it’s about tigers and teaches some inquisitive worms not to be afraid of tigers.

Characteristic humor and dynamic, iconic artwork will have readers laughing at and empathizing with Tiger’s predicament. As well as building emotional intelligence, the story illustrates (rather than tells) an important lesson: that fear comes from ignorance, and the antidote to fear is the knowledge that comes from reading and learning about the things we fear. Mo Willems and Ryan T. Higgins fans will love this—and those who are not yet fans will be once they read it!
