Poems for Little Creatures from the Very Big Wood

Written and Illustrated by Anne Marie Brown

    Ages 0-6 | Publisher: Wordeee

What to Expect: Animals, Rhyming, Bravery, Bed-Time Ritual, Discovery

Board books are a delightful way to introduce the youngest audiences to the joys of reading. In her new series, “Poems for Little Creatures from the Very Big Wood,” Anne Marie Brown does a splendid job of introducing us to the animals that inhabit the Very Big Wood. In this series, Brown uses rhyme and rhythm to entertain. The books’ messages and the author’s lyrical phrasing help young listeners learn about the sounds of the language, which encourages phonemic awareness. There are three books to the series and each story focuses on situations that are very relatable to the toddler crowd.

    Foxy Moxy (24 Pages, 978-1946274373)

Farrah Fox is a lovable little kit who has many ideas bouncing around between her ears. However, her fear of failure makes her insecure until Mama Fox reassures her that everyone fails sometimes and success often comes after learning from failures.

Goodnight Little Owlet (16 Pages, 978-1966274342)

This story relays the bedtime ritual of a baby owlet and Mommy owl who bid goodnight to the objects in the forest. It features counting sequences and tranquil imagery to help readers relax and get ready for bedtime.

    Hazel’s First Winter (16 Pages, 978-1946274366)

In this story, readers are introduced to Hazel, a brown bear who is born in the spring. Hazel enjoys exploring the world around her, but when she sees the seasons begin to change, she becomes confused and worried. Mommy bear eases her worries when she reassures Hazel that change is a natural and wonderful part of life.

Each board book is the perfect shape for little hands to hold while listening to the stories unfold. The delightful illustrations add to the fun and ensure that these stories will become favorites that will be requested to be read many times over.
