Away from the City: Book Cover

    Away from the City

    Written by Sasha Ryan Brown

    Illustrated by Page Solutions

    Ages: 4-6 | 34 Pages

    Publisher: Page Solutions (2026) | ISBN: 979-8896331001

What to Expect: Fall, change, travel, adventure, nature.

In this beautiful and philosophical picture book, readers will follow the journey of a leaf as it travels from the city and deep into nature after the winds blow it from its tree in autumn.

Growing on a tree in the city, there isn’t very much natural beauty for a leaf to encounter. However, when fall comes, the wind swoops in from the places beyond the city, and the leaf begins a journey away from the city and into the wonders of nature. Past mountains, over a river, into the nest of an eagle, and finally to its last resting place in a green and tranquil meadow, the leaf finally gets to see how perfect the world can be, away from the cars and city lights, at peace and at one with the natural environment.

While the fall season may often be associated with endings, change, decay, and death, this story instead positions the winding down of the year as the start of a new, joyous, and hopeful journey towards peace. Told through simple rhyming language, the story is illustrated in digital art that glows with light and color, depicting sweeping natural vistas that cannot help but inspire.

Based on the author’s real-life experiences in nature, Away from the City serves as an uplifting introduction for young readers to reflect on the idea of embracing change and letting go, encouraging them to see new beginnings as opportunities for growth and exploration.

    About the Author

Sasha Ryan Brown is a Navajo from New Mexico. While teaching preschool, the children often talked about the mall or video games. She wanted to pay homage to the fall foliage colors that brought happiness to her mother, Wandi’s life. They often took drives in the mountains to admire nature’s beauty. Sasha’s preschool class and Wandi’s love of nature are the inspiration for Away from the City.
