    B: cover

    B

    Written by Lexie Kareen

    Illustrated by A. Simioni

    Ages 8+ | 98 Pages

    Publisher: YGT Media | ISBN-13: 9781998754243

What to Expect: Friendship, life lessons, growth mindset, family.

Written in the engaging and relatable first-person voice of ten-year-old B, B is a sweet, funny, thought-provoking story designed to model a growth mindset and life lessons for young readers.

Bernadette (also known as “B”) is a pretty ordinary ten-year-old girl, but she has LOTS of stories to share about the life lessons she is learning. From the joy that can be found when you overcome your fears to try new things (like strange, squishy-looking eggs and squiggly octopus tentacles at the sushi restaurant) to what you can achieve if you tap into your creativity (like a new pony club at school), B knows that being open to growth and change is the best way to get the best things out of life. She’s got lots of stories to prove it, too!

The story celebrates how young people can learn and grow into kind, valuable citizens, friends, and family members, covering traits from creativity and patience to inclusivity and forgiveness. Throughout the story, A. Simioni’s dynamic pencil and watercolor illustrations help break up the text and bring the characters to life. Simple language and large text make the story accessible to readers new to the chapter-book format.

B is enjoyable, fun, and instructive—and a great launching point for discussions about character!
