    Day One Is Fun!

    Written by Kiddie Academy

    Illustrated by Daniel Wiseman

    Ages: 3-5 | 25 Pages

    Publisher: Kiddie Academy (2023)

What to Expect: First day of preschool, curiosity, learning, and community.

It’s Sophie and Baby Oliver’s first day at preschool; there is so much to see, learn, and do! Sophie sees other children painting, playing with building blocks, singing, and making friends. With so much going on, Sophie doesn’t have time to miss her Mommy and Daddy. But preschool isn’t just about play. On her first day, Sophie discovers there are many important lessons to be learned, such as kindness, sharing, table manners, and the world around her. Preschool is so much fun that when it’s time to go home at the end of the day, Sophie doesn’t want to leave!

With preschool and daycare a necessity for many working parents, children’s reactions to and feelings about separation from their families can be a concern. This informative and reassuring picture book shows readers what to expect when they start at preschool or nursery, emphasizing the fun and play aspects of learning, making new friends, and spending time with others in a structured environment. The narrative mimics the steady rhythm of a school day, underscored by the upbeat rhyming text. Daniel Wiseman’s iconic digital illustrations impart a sense of community, energy, and exploration through full-page spreads bursting with details.

Day One is Fun! is a great tool for preparing young readers for their first day (and many days after) at preschool.
