What to Expect: Humor and Poetry

When kids read they don’t think about getting an education, they want to have fun! “Screamers” is a delightful book of poetry that entertains children with humor while it helps them develop an ear for language. The author Kenny Penny offers up his zaniest poetry, inviting young readers to picture life as a “Big Slinky”, taste “alligator toenail stew” or read “the world’s smallest poem”. Smelly things, nutty teachers and hiccups add to the hilarity, as does the idea of “backwards pants” and having twelve toes! “Screamers” revels in the fact that kids have an enormous silly side and can never get enough of wacky ideas and crazy images. With over 225 poems and countless illustrations (all drawn by Kenny), this book is highly engaging, wildly funny, and unexpectedly heartwarming.
