Book Jump on the Bed Glen A. PenrodJump on the Bump

Written and Illustrated by Glen A. Penrod

    Age Range: 3+

    Paperback: 30 pages

Publisher: Dymon Publications (October 27, 2017)

    ISBN: 978-1974653966

What to expect: Phonics and Fun

In Jump on the Bump, a young boy and girl jump gleefully on a bump in the forest. But what exactly is the bump? Let’s just say they may encounter a grump.

Using only twelve words and focusing on the letter combination of –ump, Glen A. Penrod has created a sweetly engaging picture book that is ideal for beginner readers. Repetition leads to mastering sounds and this book offers plenty of opportunities to practice with jump, bump, lump, hump, grump, rump, and stump. These words, combined with a few new easy words, cleverly carry the story of the boy and the girl who jump on a bump that’s a lump. No, it’s a hump. Oops! Now it’s a grump. How will the children handle this problematic moment? Of course, with an apology and the discovery of a new, great place to jump—a stump!

Carefully constructed and paced to pure perfection, this book will boost confidence in young readers while also eliciting giggles. The illustrations are delightful, capturing the essence of childhood playfulness through the happy children and the use of a joyfully bright yet soft forest color palette.

A set of Jump on the Bump would make an excellent choice for a classroom of beginner readers, as well as being a fantastic choice for at-home reading practice. Highly Recommended.
