Megan really wants a kitten – more than anything! What will happen when she sneaks newborn kittens into her room without telling her parents?
Megan has asked for a pet for years. She has animal figurines, animal posters and reads books about her favorite critters. But every time she asks for a pet, her parents say no. She’s simply not responsible enough. And besides, her parents are allergic.
So when Megan comes across a box of perfectly sweet, just-born kittens abandoned at the park, she makes a quick decision. She’ll take them home and protect them. She just won’t tell her parents! After all, she can’t bear to see anything bad happen to them, and she worries that if she shows her parents, they’ll make her give the kittens up.
While doing enormous amounts of research on kittens, Megan also starts doing lots of chores around the house. Maybe, she rationalizes, if she starts helping out more, her parents will change their minds. If she is the most responsible kid ever, they’ll have no choice but to let her keep the kittens. So each day Megan feeds the kittens and cleans them, and also cleans the house. She keeps her homework up, and her grades improve. In fact, her parents are so impressed that they agree to reconsider her plea for a pet.
But not just yet. Weeks go by, and Megan’s secret clowder of cats is getting bigger, and noisier, every day. She confides in her grown brother, who promises not to rat her out to her parents, but eventually the inevitable happens: her mother discovers the little kittens in Megan’s bedroom. Thankfully, lessons are learned and there is a perfectly happy ending for Megan and her little munchkins.
This is a sweet and gentle book for younger readers who just love pets (especially kittens). The stakes are high without being too stressful, making this a good choice for sensitive children. Children can learn all about how much work keeping a cat, let alone four cats, really is. There are vet bills, feedings, kitty litter cleaning…the list goes on and on. Megan shows how hard it is to keep up on her responsibilities at home while taking care of the kittens. Even her social life starts to take a nosedive. How can she have any time for friends when she’s so busy being a pet-mom?
The first book in a planned series, MEGAN’S MUNCHKINS is a kindhearted book that elementary-school children will enjoy.

About the Author
Pamela Foland grew up in Plano, Texas. Her love of animals started at a very young age. As a child, she was constantly bringing home stray dogs, and injured birds. She graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Business in 2005. As an adult, her love of animals has only grown stronger. Pamela has worked in numerous pet hotels as a dog trainer and is certified to teach pet first aid and CPR. All her experience with pets culminated four years ago when Pamela found and raised an abandoned litter of day-old kittens. Not able to part with any of these now-grown babies, Pamela enjoys going home to her “little munchkins” every night. This experience gave Pamela the inspiration for her series debut, Megan’s Munchkins. Pamela will always have a special affinity with Megan because of their shared experiences. She truly believes there are few experiences in life more compelling than saving the life of another being.
