    MVP's Playbook: Book Cover

    MVP’S Playbook

    Written by Tradara McLaurine

    Illustrated by Gaspar Sabater

    Ages: 8-12 | 36 Pages

    Publisher: Tradara, LLC (2025) | ISBN: 979-8999909305

What to Expect: Basketball, team spirit, faith, determination, self-growth.

This beginner chapter book is perfect for players and basketball fans alike, combining detailed game details with important lessons about teamwork, determination, and faith.

Micah lives to play basketball—and it’s just as well, because he is the star player on his basketball team. When a knee injury puts him out of the game for a whole season, he is determined to fight—he’s not going to give up on his dream of playing varsity!

Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as simply pushing and trying harder—no matter how hard Micah tries to force his recovery, he can’t play the way he used to—every new “failure” dashes his confidence further. Then, a chance remark from a friend reminds him of something his dad taught him—about trusting himself, the process, and God. Micah realizes something: he’s done his best, and now all he can do is trust God to set him on the right path.

A determined but impatient main character, readers are sure to sympathize with Micah’s frustration at not being able to play. The story builds tension through Micah’s continuous leaps forward and setbacks, while the “P.A.S.S. it to me” strategy provides readers with a practical framework for approaching challenges with faith. Simple cartoon illustrations help break up the text and draw readers’ attention to Micah’s evolving attitude toward the game.

Exciting and uplifting, MVP’s Playbook is a wonderful tool for launching discussions about what it means to combine hard work on the process with faith in the outcome.
