What to expect: Imagination, Creativity, and Rhyming Text

Are you looking for a picture book to nurture a child’s imagination and balance screen time versus offline time? This adventurous tale of a boy and his dog, My Blank Page: The Power of Imagination, demonstrates the endless possibilities of a blank page.

A young boy is in his bedroom surrounded by toys; the only things in color are his dog, himself, and a blank page. Proclaiming to be completely bored, he closes his eyes and lets his imagination takeover, the book’s pages suddenly filled with full color. He spots a pirate ship and prepares to fight, but then joins the pirates on their quest to find a treasure map that will lead them to hidden riches, only to find witches guarding it. With every turn of the page, the boy’s blank page is put to good use. It becomes a telescope, a sword, a pirate hat, a treasure map, a one-of-a-kind painting, a golden plaque, a story, an airplane, a flag, and a note of encouragement for readers to use their imaginations.

Everything about this book shines with quality. The pages are thick and glossy and feel great in one’s hands. The bright multi-media illustrations are joyfully kid-friendly, and the rhyming text never falters. My Blank Page will be a definite hit for readers who enjoy books such as the award-winning Not a Box by Antoinette Porter. Not only does it make a fun, lap time story, but it would also be a great classroom read aloud and resource for inspiring creativity in writing, art, and literacy activities.

My Blank Page is highly recommended for raising creative kiddos that are ready to think outside of the box.
