Ripley's Fun Facts & Silly Stories THE BIG ONE!Ripley’s Fun Facts & Silly Stories: The Big One!

    From Ripley Publishing

    Age Range: 7 – 10 years

    Hardcover: 144 pages

Publisher: Ripley Publishing (September 9, 2014)

    ISBN-13: 978-1609911188

What to expect: Fun Facts, Crazy Stories, Animals, People

Fun Facts & Silly Stories: The Big One! is the newest addition to Ripley’s successful Fun Facts and Silly Stories series. Each of the pages in this massive new collection of bizarre truths is loaded with information primed to capture the attention of every child out there.

Oddly fascinating, gross and sweet facts are well balanced throughout to keep every child turning the pages. Kids will enjoy the interactive challenge of matching eyes to the correct animals. And, on pages 126 and 127, in a double page spread titled “Awesome Eaters,” there are loads of gulp-worthy facts about the amount of specific foods that people have eaten in short periods of time, including Jo LaRue who ate four pounds of pickles in five minutes. For those that like the sweeter facts, “Beast Buddies,” a page that shows adorable photographs of unlikely animal pairings, really balances out the mood and gross factor of other facts like learning that the space station recycles astronaut urine into water they can drink.

Great pictures, which consist of mostly brightly colored photographs, are paired with facts to draw readers in and make them want to learn more about the multitude of topics on offer. Facts that naturally group together take over double page spreads, and the book’s large format has allowed Ripley’s Publishing to include some lists and category groups, such as ‘space,’ ‘food,’ and ‘crazy days.’
