Talbot the Tooth: Just a Little Wiggly: Book Cover

Talbot the Tooth, Just a little wiggly

    Written by Debbe Hysell

    Illustrated by Springer Literary House

    Ages: 4-6 | 30 Pages

    Publisher: Whimsy’s Edge Books (2025) | ISBN: 978-1-968351-00-7

What to Expect: Losing a tooth, stories, uncertainty, embracing change, dental care.

For every child who loses a first tooth and wonders where it goes after the tooth fairy visits, this story is sure to offer both reassurance and wonder.

Talbot, the baby tooth, is very wiggly—but he’s not sure he wants to move on just yet. What will happen when he falls out? Will he get thrown away? Will he get pounced on by the cat? What if he leaves a hole in JJ’s mouth? Despite the encouraging words of the tooth fairy, Talbot holds on for as long as he can … but one day, he can’t hold on any longer. Tucked under JJ’s pillow, Talbot nearly does get caught by the cat, but soon enough the tooth fairy is back to rescue him and send him on his way to his next big adventure—he’s going to be a new star in the night sky!

By giving the tooth a personality of its own (cautious but ultimately courageous), the story puts dental care into a whole new light, encouraging readers to take extra care with their own teeth. At the same time, the story helps readers work through their own anxieties, emphasizing the idea that losing a tooth is nothing to worry about. The digital artwork walks readers through the changes Talbot experiences, helping them identify his emotions and relate to them. Advice at the end of the book helps parents and teachers further support readers when they lose their own first teeth.

Upbeat and encouraging, Talbot the Tooth, Just a little wiggly works on multiple levels to help children feel comfortable with the changes of growing up.

    About the Author

Debbe Hysell was born halfway through the 1950s—a wonderful time to be a kid. Life felt simple then: days filled with outdoor play, meals shared around the family table, evenings spent reading or watching TV together.
Reading didn’t come easily at first, but thanks to some inspiring authors who lit the way, she grew to love it. Now, she doesn’t go anywhere without a book in hand. She grew up in Ohio, moved around a bit, and eventually put down roots in Austin, TX. Along the way, her love of reading naturally turned into an interest in writing.

Publishing wasn’t something she rushed into. Her words lived on paper, sometimes curled and torn, or saved on a computer labeled “poetry” or “reflections.” She finally took the leap in 2018 when she self-published The Christmas Pajamas, a sweet holiday story for her family. She also has several poems published through the Library of Congress. Now, with the release of Talbot The Tooth, Just A Little Wiggly, she is thrilled to share her first children’s book with the world.

Her writing goals are simple but meaningful: to write stories that encourage curiosity, laughter, and kindness—books that families can weave into cherished bedtime routines for generations to come.
Within the pages of a book, you can be or do anything.
