    The Things I Love

    Written by Christina M. Carroll

    Illustrated by Jenny Slife

    Ages 4+ | 28 Pages

    Publisher: The Orange Chair, LLC (2023) | ISBN-13: 9798889740001

What to Expect: Getting older, interests, and the mother-child relationship.

In this sweet and simple picture book, readers walk back through time through each year of their life, thinking about how their interests and likes have changed over time.

Snuggled up at bedtime is the perfect time for you to think about all the things you love. What do you love most of all? Chances are that your answer changes all the time! When you were ten, you may have loved camping and experiments best. When you were five, it might have been building forts and playing leapfrog you loved best instead. When you were a brand-new baby, you loved cuddles, finding your nose, and chewing your toes! But no matter what age you are or were, what you love best is mamma—and before that, she loved YOU best!

In The Things I Love, the easy rhyming text pairs beautifully with vibrant digital artwork arranged to mimic the look and feel of a photograph album. This presentation invites readers to walk down memory lane with a parent or loved one, sharing their memories of the things they have loved, making this a fantastic story for shared reading aloud. At the end of the story, a simple message reminds readers about the one thing that doesn’t change—parental love.

The Things I Love is a unique and adorable story to help beginner readers think about time, memory, and love.

    About the Author

As Mama to a curious two-year-old boy, a knows-what-she-wants five-year-old daughter, and her bonus son they look up to – the cool big brother, with another nugget who joined the family in April 2024, Christina has quite the inspiration for her stories.  Not to mention, she’s a (big) kid at heart.  She’s also learned firsthand why representation matters based on her lived experiences, raising Afro-Latino kids, the books she reads, and the encounters she’s had (and still has) throughout life.  That’s why she started The Orange Chair to bring that representation to you!

Christina lives in Texas with her kiddos and husband where she daylights (and sometimes all-nights) as a trial attorney handling commercial litigation.  She loves writing the many more books coming on the horizon, spanning topics from heritage, family life, and childhood diseases to food and animals – with plenty of whimsy in there, too.
