What to Expect: Bears, mountain adventures, sharing, humor, nature, wildlife.
A mountain man and a hungry grizzly go head-to-head over a patch of wild blueberries in this rollicking outdoor romp that leaves young readers questioning who really comes out on top.
Deep in bear country, an iconic mountain man, Davy Crockett, sets his sights on a bounty of ripe blueberries. But he’s not the only one with a taste for the sweet summer fruit. What follows is a boisterous, bruising back-and-forth between two stubborn competitors who each believe the berries belong to them. As their frenemy rivalry—man versus bear—escalates across the wilderness, the story barrels toward a clever twist that flips the whole contest on its head.
Bobrick’s storytelling is playful and action-packed, with a momentum that keeps the pages turning and plenty of room for expressive read-aloud delivery. Beneath the comedic tug-of-war sits a thoughtful question about sharing, ownership, and who really has a claim to the wild things of the world—a quiet invitation for kids to ponder long after the final page.
Sullivan’s illustrations are a genuine delight, suffused with a warm golden glow that captures the magic of a summer afternoon in the mountains. Her artwork will resonate especially with young readers who love nature, wide-open landscapes, and, of course, blueberries.
Bears Don’t Share is a satisfying pick for children who enjoy humor with a little bite and stories that reward a second look. It will find its happiest home with outdoorsy families, fans of trickster tales, and any young reader who has ever had to share something they really didn’t want to share.

About the Author
As a young parent, Rick Bobrick spent countless hours telling bedtime stories to his three children. Twenty-five years later, one of those stories has led to this first-time author’s unique picture book collection featuring Davy Crockett and his furry frenemy, the grizzly bear.
Rick is now retired and lives in Medusa, New York, with his wife Cathleen and his big dog Bean. He enjoys fly fishing, skiing, gardening, and spending time with his grandson. After a forty-year teaching career (mostly middle school science), having his children’s books published is a dream come true.
