Tales of Whimsy Verses of Woe: Book Cover

Tales of Whimsy, Verses of Woe

    Created by Tim DeRoche

    Illustrated by Daniel Gonzalez

    Ages 7+ | 92 Pages

    Publisher: Redtail Press | ISBN-13: 9780999277614

What to Expect: Rhyming, poetry, silliness, macabre

In Tales of Whimsy, Verses of Woe, winner of the prestigious Baldersquash Medal (which honors only the best in highfalutin nonsense), author Tim DeRoche has created a book of poetry sure to entertain and delight older children and adults.

Each poem created by DeRoche uses his enjoyable signature style, reminiscent of Shel Silverstein’s irreverent sense, to craft short but whimsical verses that audiences are bound to chuckle over. Standout poems include “The King of the Land,” featuring a king who joins a punk rock band, and “Bailey O’Bannon,” a girl who detests the color green. The cover illustration features “The Contraption,” a flippant poem that plays upon the English language.

Black and white drawings provided by Daniel Gonzalez complete the charming and retro feel of this hardcover. In addition to the eccentric poetry collection, there is a surprise at the end of the book—in place of traditional author and illustrator biographies, pure silliness abounds in the Gallery of Whimsy and Woe!

Tales of Whimsy, Verses of Woe has something for everyone and will delight readers who enjoy silly and macabre content—it’s a book that will be read again and again!
