    The Children’s Book Review | August 30, 2018

In the spirit of Max and Ruby, Rosemary Wells launches a new preschool picture book series starring brother-and-sister twin cat duo Kit and Kaboodle, and the mischievous mouse Spinka! Before we spotlight this new book, discover the books that her own family members love and read.

My grandchildren are avid readers, and I can’t keep up with them. I know they love Harry Potter because of the language, the closeness of the author to the reader, and the sheer wonder of the adventure. They love the details of shopping for wizard gear. I have to say I am not at all a fantasy fan. I dislike it universally, but Harry Potter is different. JK Rowling is a magician, and my whole family is in awe of her illusion.

My 8-year-old, Frances, loves “Half Magic.” My other eight-year-old girl, Phoebe, loves anything by Roald Dahl and adores Tintin.

My own children long ago were great readers too. Amos and Boris, by William Stein, The Beast of  M. Racine, by Tommy Ungerer, and Owl at Home by Arnold Lobel, were 100-times-read picture books.

The ever wonderful John Bellairs was their absolute favorite. They read his books again and again as I did Nancy Drew a lifetime ago.

Publisher’s Synopsis: Kit and Kaboodle are twin Siamese cats. The brother and sister are very good kittens―they are always well behaved―but they are always getting into trouble. It’s not the kittens who are making mischief. It’s a red-capped mouse named Spinka!

There are three short stories in this picture book: Sock Mischief, Baseball Mischief, Bath Time Mischief.
