What to expect: Fairy Tale and Learn how to tie a bow

Cleo Can Tie a Bow is part of the A Rabbit and Fox Story series that teaches kids how to tie knots (and bows). This sweet picture book illustrates the lifetime skill of tying a lovely bow—a confidence-building, developmental milestone that improves fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Cleo loves bows. She wears them in her hair, on her dress, paints them on her fingernails, and ties her shoes with them. Bows also decorate her room. Bows of every kind are everywhere: inside-out bows, pinwheel bows, side loop bows, double ruffle bows, and twisted boutique bows. Her favorite is possibly the ‘bunny ear bow’ and she has a story to help her remember how to tie it: A fox helps a bunny learn how to keep its long ears from dragging along the forest floor. Step-by-step, beginning with an x and a series of loops, both the fox and Cleo demonstrate to readers how to tie an utterly charming bow. The story ends with a sweet song that readers can listen to and watch on YouTube—the link to this short video is provided in the book.

Author Sybrina Durant is quite brilliant—Cleo Can Tie a Bow is like two sweet stories in one, comprised of a tale about delightful, little Cleo who loves bows and a story about an adorable bunny with a problem to solve. Learning new skills can feel overwhelming to kids, however, this bow-tying lesson is wrapped in an enjoyable story. The ‘how-to’ information is presented with text and illustrations that readers will be eager to implement. Thanks to adorable doe-eyed characters, a clear-cut delivery, and a catchy song, kids are sure to remember this story every time they tie a bow.

Young readers ready to try something new are very likely to walk away from this interactive story time with a new skill that will stick.
