    Even When You Don’t

    Written by Anslee Earwood

    Illustrated by Tori Rainey

    Ages: 4-6 | 18 Pages

    Publisher: Covenant Books (2023) | ISBN-13: 9798888515457

What to Expect: Family, mothers, and unconditional love.

It’s easy to remember you are loved when things are going well, but Even When You Don’t reminds readers that a mother’s love is there even when things are not going well—in fact, especially when things are not going well.

The great thing about having a mom is that she’ll love you no matter what. She’ll love you even if you don’t win a game or score a goal. She’ll love you even when you fail, or find things hard, or when you make a mess or smell bad. She’ll love you even if you are scared, grumpy, rude, or mean. A mom will love you no matter what is happening, what you have done, or what you haven’t done. That’s because a mom’s job is to love you no matter what. There’s no escaping a mother’s love!

The hand-drawn artwork invites readers into the lives of two children as they try their mother’s patience to the limits—and shows how that love never falters, no matter the provocation. Simple rhyming text uses lots of repetition and easy vocabulary to stay accessible even to beginner readers. Soft, muted colors create a calming mood that underscores the gentle message of security in the story.

Even When You Don’t is a sweet story about love and affection, perfect for family bonding and shared reading.
