What to Expect: Facing fears, Imagination, Diversity, Inclusivity.

How to Make a Perfect S’more is an inspiring story about a young boy named Miles who learns to face his fears during his first time away at summer camp.

When the challenge of making s’mores over an open flame proves to be an overwhelming experience for Miles, he runs into the forest, where he encounters a unique fire-breathing friend. This new friend helps him face his fears, and the pair work together on Miles’s last night at camp to create a perfect s’more.

Author Michael Cooper does a superb job of highlighting how younger children often have fears regarding new environments and trying new things.  Through the character of Miles, readers will be able to envision themselves and connect with his feelings while also learning important life skills through Miles’s summer camp adventures.

Illustrator Penny Webber complements the text with her engaging illustrations. She uses realistic imagery with soft-focus backgrounds that accurately convey the characters’ feelings, captivating readers of all ages and enhancing their connection to the story and the reading experience.

With its engaging narrative and relatable characters, How to Make a Perfect S’more is a good choice as a read-aloud for families or educators. It allows readers of all ages to experience an imaginative and relatable text, making it a good choice for anyone looking for a heartwarming story.

    About the Author

Michael Cooper is a first-time author and second-time dad. When he is not coming up with creative stories to entertain his family, you can usually find him in the kitchen enabling their s’mores habit. Aside from writing, he enjoys photography, travel, and vintage timepieces. If he had a dog, it would be named Murphy. If he could travel anywhere, it would be to New Zealand. If he could eat one meal for the rest of his life, it would be fajitas.
