    Istara’s Tale

    Written by Ars Nipun

    Ages: 8-12 | 136 Pages

    Publisher: ARS Nipun  (2022) | ISBN-13: ‎ 979-8355925901

What to Expect: Other worlds, pirates, fantasy, friendship, and perseverance.

In this fresh new take on fantasy adventure, the quest trope is made lively and exciting again by its location in a new, exotic fantasy world.

Jimmy’s friend Tom is known for being trouble—but even so, he doesn’t expect much from the strange device Tom gives him. To his surprise, the device transports him to an alternative fantasy world and straight into adventure. Istara is full of strange people and fascinating creatures, and Jimmy sets out to learn more about it. Disaster strikes, however, when pirates steal the precious device from him, leaving him stranded and alone. Well,… not entirely alone. One of Istara’s inhabitants, Asani, comes to Jimmy’s aid, giving him the help he will need if he’s to have a chance of retrieving the device and returning home safely.

Istara is fascinating enough to be a character in itself, full of inhabitants that feel just different enough from the usual cast of fantasy creatures to be interesting. At the same time, their reaction to Jimmy’s presence in their world offers food for thought on the importance of human beings in the universe. Jimmy’s curiosity and determination make him an appealing main character, helping readers immerse themselves in the adventure as if they were present on Istara themselves. The story’s pace is fast and absorbing, full of excitement and suspense.

Istara’s Tale is a delightful new novel, perfect for younger pre-teens and teens stretching their fantasy wings.
