    The Children’s Book Review | October 17, 2017

Erin Bowman used to tell stories visually as a web designer. Now a full-time writer, she relies solely on words. She lives in New Hampshire with her family and when not writing she can often be found hiking, geeking out over good typography, and obsessing over all things Harry Potter.

    I write because …

I’m a writer. Always have been.

    I read because …

It is an escape—into imaginary worlds and also into other lives. Reading is a bridge to empathy and understanding.

My latest published book is …

    Retribution Rails

I wrote this book because …

I’d finally written the ‘wild west’ novel I’d always dreamed about (Vengeance Road) and one wasn’t enough.

    Best moment …

    When my daughter was born.

My special place to write is …

    My home office.

    Necessary writing/creativity tool …

Instrumental writing playlists on Spotify and my Bose noise-canceling headphones.

The person who has been my greatest writing teacher or inspiration is …

My mother. A librarian and teacher, she introduced me to books at a young age and has continued to put recommendations in my hands ever since.

    Currently reading …

    What Happened by Hillary Clinton

    Favorite bookshop …

My local indie: Gibson’s Bookstore in Concord, NH

    All-time favorite children’s book I didn’t write …

    Holes by Louis Sachar

    Favorite illustrator …

Teagan White (and not just because she did VR’s + RR’s covers. Her art is incredible and her children’s books illustrations are especially adorable!)

A literary character I would like to vacation with …

Hermione Granger (no flights because she’d Apparate me everywhere and vacation would never have to end thanks to her time turner.)

When I am not reading or writing I am …

Chasing after my 3yo daughter, taking long walks, or doing yoga.

Publisher’s Synopsis: When Reece Murphy is forcibly dragged into the Rose Riders gang  because of a mysterious gold coin in his possession, he vows to find the man who gave him the piece and turn him over to the gang in exchange for freedom. Never does he expect a lead to come from an aspiring female journalist. But when Reece’s path crosses with Charlotte Vaughn after a botched train robbery and she mentions a promising rumor about a gunslinger from Prescott, it becomes apparent that she will be his ticket to freedom—or a noose. As the two manipulate each other for their own ends, past secrets are unearthed, reviving a decade-old quest for revenge that may be impossible to settle.

In this thrilling companion to Vengeance Road, dangerous alliances are formed, old friends meet new enemies, and the West is wilder than ever.
