Ode to a Pug: NOT the VET!

    Written by Jill Rosen

    Illustrated by Stephanie Rohr

    Ages: 4-6 | 21 Pages

Publisher: Pug House Books (2025) | ISBN: 978-1-0695069-0-0

What to Expect: Pug Dogs, Pet Ownership, and Overcoming Fear.

Third in the “Ode to a Pug” series, this story is sure to bring a smile to the face of any pet owner who has ever had to chase, wrestle, and cajole a pet who somehow realized that a trip to the vet was happening.

Phoebe the Pug HATES the vet—and she’s really not convinced her sore eye is bad enough to face the scary dog doctor with his needles and shots. When she realizes that’s where her owner wants to take her, she makes a valiant attempt to hide, but it’s no good—that pesky cat spoils her first few hiding places, and then her tail gives her away.

Then Phoebe meets a Pom with bigger problems than hers (worms!) and a vet who is kind and gentle. Before she even realizes what is happening, she’s had her shot, and it’s time to go home and play. Phoebe is soon back to her old tricks—and now she knows she doesn’t have to be afraid of a trip to the vet ever again!

Phoebe is a vivacious, larger-than-life doggy protagonist, and readers will love seeing the everyday occurrences of pet ownership from a fresh perspective through her eyes. Her big personality is matched by the lively, action-filled illustrations, in which Pheobe’s antics take center stage. The rhyming text is funny, offering readers a running monologue of Phoebe’s thoughts as she navigates her fear, then relief, and finally bravado.

For fans of the previous books in the series, or just of dogs in general, Ode to a Pug (Not the Vet!) is sure to be loved.
