Legends Unearthed: The Hunt for Yamashita’s Gold

    Written by Sutton Lewis

    Ages: 10+ | 96 Pages

Publisher: SJ Publishing, LLC (2026) | ISBN: 978-1962289016

What to Expect: Adventure, teamwork, lost treasure, WWII history, problem-solving, Filipino culture.

Inventive, fast-paced, and atmospheric, this treasure-quest adventure takes readers on a roller-coaster ride through the jungles and islands of the Philippines.

Before General Yamashita surrendered to the Americans in WWII, he hid a vast and legendary horde of treasure. Although many have tried to find the hidden treasure since, none have succeeded—until now, that is. Friends Sam, Riley, Ava, and Jonah don’t just have determination, technological inventiveness, and a fantastic ability to work as a team; they also have the notebook, passed down to Sam and Riley by their great-grandfather, who was one of Yamashita’s own men, that will lead them first to the treasure map, and then to the treasure itself. Unfortunately, they’re not the only ones after the treasure—Victor Serrano is a pirate with a mean streak, a gang of faithful henchmen, lots of high-tech weaponry, his own blood-right claim to the treasure, and a very important key. And he doesn’t need to decipher the clues in the notebook and map—not when the four friends can do the work for him…

Sam, Riley, Ava, and Jonah are independent, resourceful, and brave, but not infallible—and readers will love following along as they solve each new clue, always just one small step ahead of the pirates whose hands they might be playing right into. From jeepneys and habal-habals to pancit and roasted rice coffee, the story is steeped in the tropical vibes of Filipino culture, as well as the American and Japanese histories that continue to echo through the years since WWII in the Philippines. Written by a 14-year-old author with dyslexia, the story also stands as a testament to readers about the agency and capabilities of young people to change the world around them.

Packed with excitement, humor, and mystery, Legends Unearthed: The Hunt for Yamashita’s Gold is perfect for any adventure-loving middle-grader.

    About the Author

Sutton Lewis is a young adventure author with a passion for history, mystery, and cinematic storytelling. Inspired by treasure-hunt classics, he wrote Legends Unearthed: The Hunt for Yamashita’s Gold to create the kind of exciting story he always wanted to read.

Diagnosed with dyslexia in fourth grade, Sutton learned early that creativity and determination matter more than limitations.

What began as a personal challenge soon turned into a nine-month journey of research, writing, and world-building as he explored the history of Yamashita’s Gold, World War II in the Philippines, and Filipino culture and geography to make the adventure feel thrilling and authentic.

Blending humor, suspense, friendship, pirate chases, and hidden clues, Sutton created a fast-paced middle-grade adventure designed to inspire curiosity, courage, and imagination in young readers.

When he is not writing, Sutton enjoys basketball, anime, video games, spending time with family and friends, and playing with his dogs. He believes the best stories are the ones that make readers laugh, stay up too late turning pages, and dream about going on adventures of their own.

The Hunt for Yamashita’s Gold is the first book in the exciting new Legends Unearthed adventure series.
